Author visits that inspire reading, writing and imagination

Getting Kids Into Books connects schools and libraries with some of New Zealand’s most engaging children’s authors and illustrators. Through lively presentations and hands-on workshops, students discover how stories are created and are inspired to read, write and imagine. A visit from a real author or illustrator can spark curiosity, build confidence, and help students see books in a whole new way.

Why it matters

Meeting a real author or illustrator can completely change how students see books. Students discover how stories are created, gain confidence in writing and storytelling, and often leave newly excited about reading. This kind of real-world inspiration can be a powerful boost to classroom literacy programmes.

Flexible visits for schools

Choose from presentations, workshops, full-day visits or longer Writer in Residence programmes. Sessions can be tailored to suit your students and support the New Zealand Curriculum.
